Great Location: There is plenty to do in Kibale Forest, and Isunga Lodge is a great base to start exploring. The lodge is only 15 minutes away from the start of the chimpanzee trail and is situated in the crater lakes region, making for some fantastic hikes and mountain biking.

Accommodation

Isunga Lodge offers mid-range accommodation in Kibale Forest National Park. 

Guests can choose from eight en-suite cottages dotted between thick bushes and beautiful plants in their wild garden. The cottages are perfectly secluded, offering the utmost privacy.

The rooms are modest but pleasant and overlook the Kibale Forest, guaranteeing great views directly from your pillow.

The family cottage is slightly bigger with two rooms, a living room and sleeps four people.

All cottages have mosquito nets, solar power, hot water and flushing toilets.

Enjoy panoramic views of the sunset over the Kibale Forest whilst sipping on evening sundowners from Isunga's elevated deck, one of the lodge's best features. Follow this up with a three-course dinner, freshly prepared with vegetables from the garden.

Lunch is a simpler affair and includes delicious freshly baked bread, home-grown salads and a small dessert.

Dishes follow a set menu, but Isunga will happily make adjustments according to your dietary requirements and if you wish the chefs can prepare some local dishes for you to try.

Escape the afternoon heat with a dip in the swimming pool or head back to the lounge and take in the dramatic views of the forest below.

Activities at Isunga Lodge

Kibale is one of East Africa's main chimpanzee trekking destinations and boasts a 95% chance of encountering these intelligent creatures in their natural habitat.

Alongside chimp trekking, There are plenty of activities around Kibale Forest National Park to suit all interests.

The area surrounding Isunga Lodge is great for mountain biking, hiking, and nature walks.

A visit to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a great option for birdwatchers. You will have a good chance of spotting some rare birds, including the blue turaco, so make sure you have a good set of binoculars.

Local community and tea plantation visits are also great afternoon or morning activities.
