What makes Sanctuary special?

Sanctuary camp is one of the most popular accommodation options for gorilla trekkers looking for a luxury base. It's situated just 5 minutes from the trailhead HQ at Buhoma, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Buhoma is the most popular gorilla trekking route in the park. The camp is truly a part of the forest, so much so that gorillas often emerge from the surrounding shrubbery and wander the grounds.

Apart from its incredible location, the Sanctuary team know what it takes to compete in East African luxury lodging; artful and practical design paired with exceptional service. The rooms are private, tented cottages with queen size beds and a private en-suite bathroom, and the team go above and beyond to look after every guest that comes through.

And then there are the little things; sitting around the campfire at night, the sounds from the surrounding forest a constant reminder that you're far from civilisation. Waking up early to start your days adventuring with freshly cleaned and dried boots and clothes ready and waiting for you, along with a fresh coffee and the crisp jungle air: this is the quintessence of luxury adventure travel.

Gorilla Trekking from Sanctuary

Sanctuary is located by the Buhoma trailhead on the north side of the Bwindi forest. Buhoma is the most popular trekking route, and is where gorilla trekking all began in 1993.

The trekking here is the most accessible of the 4 trailheads around Bwindi, largely because the Rushegura gorilla family tend to hang around near the village (and that's why they are known to wander onto the grounds of Sanctuary camp!).
